BlackBerry’s IoT Boom: Can It Outpace Challenges in Cybersecurity?

BlackBerry’s third-quarter fiscal results delivered a mix of optimism and caution as the company reported stronger-than-expected profitability, positive cash flow, and notable progress in its strategic transformation. The stock surged 20% to $3.59, marking its highest close since May, as investors reacted to the earnings beat despite a downward revision in the fiscal-year guidance. The quarter saw BlackBerry posting an adjusted profit of 2 cents per share, surpassing analysts’ expectations of a 1-cent loss. Total revenue stood at $162 million, in line with estimates, with $19 million attributed to its artificial intelligence-powered cybersecurity platform, Cylance. However, the company revised its fiscal-year revenue outlook to a range of $517 to $526 million, down from $591 to $616 million. This adjustment reflects challenges tied to its decision to sell Cylance to Arctic Wolf, a $160 million deal expected to close in the fourth fiscal quarter.
