Ecolab is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire CoolIT Systems from KKR for roughly $4.5 billion to $5 billion, a transaction that could be announced as soon as next week and would represent one of the company’s boldest strategic moves in years. The report arrives at a time when Ecolab is already repositioning itself toward higher-growth, higher-margin markets tied to artificial intelligence, semiconductor fabrication, digital monitoring, and data-center infrastructure. On its latest earnings call, management highlighted strong momentum in Global High-Tech, described direct-to-chip cooling as a major launch area for 2026, and framed AI as a water- and thermal-management opportunity spanning fabs, power generation, and data centers. CoolIT would fit directly into that framework. The target’s valuation has reportedly surged from about $270 million when KKR bought a majority stake in 2023, underscoring how quickly liquid-cooling assets have been repriced.
