Uber Acquisition Shocker: Can Blacklane Turn It Into A Luxury Travel Giant?
Uber Technologies is weighing a move that could broaden its reach well beyond standard ride-hailing. Reuters reported on March 30, 2026, that Uber has agreed to acquire Berlin-based chauffeur service Blacklane, subject to regulatory approvals, with closing expected by the end of 2026 and no financial terms disclosed. The target was valued at about $547 million after an October 2024 funding round, making this a relatively modest transaction in size but potentially meaningful in strategy. The timing also matters. Uber is entering 2026 from a position of financial strength after reporting $8.7 billion in adjusted EBITDA, $9.8 billion in free cash flow, and more than 200 million monthly active users in its latest annual results. Management has also been emphasizing targeted growth investments, premium product expansion, and a broader platform approach spanning mobility, delivery, membership, advertising, and autonomy.
