New York Times’ 13.4 Million Subscriber Engine: Can Video Unlock The Next Growth Wave?
The New York Times Company reported strong operational and financial performance in the second quarter of 2026, demonstrating progress across its strategic priorities. The company continued to leverage its journalistic strengths by covering significant global and cultural events while expanding its presence in video content. It launched new features such as a shows tab in its flagship app to enhance user engagement and broadened its video offerings, producing thousands of new videos each quarter. These efforts are part of a broader strategy aiming to deepen engagement with existing audiences and attract new subscribers through multi-format content delivery. Financially, consolidated revenues grew by 11%, driven by 16% growth in digital subscription revenues, which reached approximately $408 million. The company added 280,000 net new digital subscribers, raising the total to 13.4 million, and achieved a 3.1% increase in average revenue per user (ARPU).
