10x Genomics’ 47% Instrument Drop — Is Atera About To Change The Story?

10x Genomics reported second quarter 2026 revenue of $151 million, including $1.6 million from license and royalty settlements. Excluding these nonrecurring items, revenue grew 3% year-over-year to $149 million. The company’s consumables revenue rose 7%, driven by 3% growth in Single Cell and 16% growth in Spatial consumables. However, instrument revenue declined 47%, attributed primarily to reduced Spatial instrument sales as customers delayed purchases in anticipation of the upcoming Atera platform. The company’s flagship launch, Atera, received strong early customer engagement and order volume surpassing initial expectations, though production constraints limit shipments to around 40 units for the full year, primarily in the fourth quarter. Atera offers step-change advances in spatial whole transcriptome profiling, combining throughput, sensitivity, and multiplexing, and aims to provide researchers a more comprehensive view of biological systems. Customer interest spans academia and biopharma across multiple disease areas.
