3M: How Will Consumer Electronics Drive Growth—and Is Asia Localization the Power Move No One’s Pricing In?
The company’s second quarter financial results for 2026 demonstrated a combination of organic growth, margin expansion, and improved earnings, reflecting ongoing progress against its strategic transformation priorities. Organic sales increased by 5.4%, driven mainly by commercial excellence efforts, an accelerated pace of new product introductions, and sustained demand in core industrial markets. This growth was broad-based geographically, with notable double-digit growth in China and India, mid-single-digit improvements in North America and Europe, and strong performance across safety, industrial, transport, and electronics segments. The consumer business segment declined slightly, attributed to softness in U.S. consumer spending and inventory adjustments at key retailers. Operating margins expanded by 40 basis points to 24.9%, aided by productivity and operational discipline, partially offset by corporate headwinds such as tariffs and investments. Earnings per share rose 11% to $2.40 on a non-GAAP basis, supported by margin gains and lower share count resulting from substantial share repurchases.
