American Electric Power’s $33 Billion Transmission Bet: A Grid Powerhouse In The Making!
American Electric Power reported first quarter 2026 operating earnings of $1.64 per share, up from $1.54 in the same period last year, reinforcing the company’s confidence in meeting its full-year guidance between $6.15 and $6.45 per share. The increase reflects positive regulatory outcomes, strong demand growth, and ongoing investments in transmission and generation assets. Regulated earned returns on equity (ROE) improved to 9.3% for the quarter and are forecasted to reach approximately 9.5% by 2030. Operationally, American Electric Power continues to experience robust system demand, primarily in Indiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas, with contracted load growth expanding to 63 gigawatts, up 7 gigawatts from the prior quarter. Nearly 90% of this contracted load derives from data centers, including large hyperscalers, underpinned by stringent credit standards and binding service agreements.
