BellRing Brands’ Protein Shake Leadership Faces Its Biggest Pricing Test Yet!
BellRing Brands reported second quarter fiscal 2026 results that fell short of management’s expectations, highlighting a challenging operating environment impacted by increased competition, shifting consumer behavior, and rising input costs. Net sales increased modestly by 2% year-over-year to $599 million but did not meet forecasts, with the product mix differing significantly from prior expectations. Premier Protein RTD (ready-to-drink) shakes showed 2.3% net sales growth and double-digit volume gains, partially offset by adverse price/mix factors and increased promotional activity. However, Dymatize sales declined 2%, reflecting consumer elasticity following inflation-driven price increases. Promotional intensity across the category surged, with 27% of RTD shake volumes sold on promotion—up 8 percentage points from the previous year—reflecting greater price sensitivity among consumers and competitive pressures from numerous emerging brands. This dynamic pressured baseline volumes and margins.
