HP’s $600 Million Capital Return — Is Cash Generation Stronger Than The Headlines Suggest?

Hewlett-Packard Inc. reported record third-quarter revenue of $15.7 billion, up 13% year-over-year and marking its ninth consecutive quarter of revenue growth. Performance was driven primarily by Personal Systems, which recorded its tenth consecutive quarter of growth with revenue increasing 18%. Demand remained solid across commercial and consumer markets, supported by premium PCs, AI-enabled devices, advanced compute solutions, and workforce offerings. Personal Systems gained share in higher-value categories, particularly in the Americas, while AI PCs are expected to represent 50% of shipments by fiscal year-end. Print revenue declined 2% year-over-year amid competitive pressure on supplies and hardware volumes. However, Hewlett-Packard maintained disciplined pricing, improved profitability on unit placements, and generated strength in industrial and 3D printing. Big tank printer unit volumes increased 42%, supporting sequential and year-over-year market share gains. Print operating margin improved slightly year-over-year, partly benefiting from tariff refunds, while the company continued shifting toward higher-value categories.
