Globe Life Inc. reported net income of $271 million ($3.39 per share) for the first quarter, marking a year-over-year increase from $255 million ($3.01 per share). Net operating income per share grew 12% to $3.43, continuing a trend of double-digit growth in seven of the last eight quarters. The company’s return on equity through March 31 stood at 17.9% on a GAAP basis, with book value per share increasing 12% to $98.56 excluding accumulated other comprehensive income. In insurance operations, total premium revenue rose 6% year-over-year, with life premiums increasing 3% to $853 million and life underwriting margin holding steady at 41% of premiums. Health insurance premiums grew 13% to $417 million, driven largely by Medicare supplement rate increases and strong sales across divisions, maintaining health underwriting margins at approximately 23%.
