Suncor Energy Turns 875,000 Barrels Per Day Into Upstream Momentum; Is It Enough?
Suncor Energy reported financial and operational results for the first quarter of 2026 characterized by both progress and challenges within an integrated oil and gas business model. The company achieved record upstream production of 875,000 barrels per day, its highest first quarter on record and the second-highest quarter overall, supported by strong performances at Fort Hills, E&P, and the Firebag in situ asset. Refining throughput also reached a first-quarter record of 498,000 barrels per day, reflecting an increase over prior periods and higher throughput across all four refineries, including Edmonton and Montreal facilities, with utilization rates adjusted to a recently re-rated system capacity. Product sales approached 681,000 barrels per day, a record quarter driven by a strategic shift towards balancing both value and volume, with notable growth in retail volumes under the Petro-Canada brand.
