Unum Group’s $3.8 Billion LTC Risk Transfer — Can It Reshape The Earnings Story?

 

Unum Group reported steady second-quarter 2026 performance across its diversified employee benefits portfolio while continuing to reduce legacy long-term care exposure. Core businesses including U.S. group benefits, Colonial Life, and international operations delivered underlying premium growth, solid persistency, and continued investment in digital and leave management capabilities. Underlying premium growth was approximately 5%. U.S. sales across Unum brands increased 7.4% during the quarter and 14% year-to-date, supported by workplace benefits demand and broader adoption of platforms such as HR Connect and Broker Connect. Colonial Life sales increased 6% and generated returns of nearly 20%, supported by disciplined execution and adoption of its Agent Assist platform. International premium growth in the U.K. and Poland exceeded 5%, although U.K. sales remained flat amid higher claims pressure.
