Edison International’s 93% Grid Hardening Milestone: Is Wildfire Risk Finally Easing?

Edison International reported first quarter 2026 core earnings per share of $1.42, reflecting steady operational progress and disciplined execution. The company reaffirmed its 2026 core EPS guidance of $5.90 to $6.20 and maintained its long-term core EPS growth target of 5% to 7%, supported by strong visibility into Southern California Edison’s (SCE) capital plan and regulatory outlook. Key operational highlights include approximately 93% completion of planned distribution system hardening in high wildfire risk areas, ongoing enhancements to Public Safety Power Shutoff protocols, and the application of AI, LiDAR, and satellite imagery to improve wildfire mitigation and grid reliability. These initiatives aim to strengthen safety, resilience, and reliability for customers and communities. The Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program (WRCP) has extended over 1,500 offers totaling more than $500 million to those impacted by the Eaton fire, although the program remains early-stage and the full scope and ultimate loss exposure are still uncertain.
