Snap-on Acquisition Twist: Heavy-Duty Diagnostics May Be The Real Prize!
Snap-on has moved deeper into heavy-duty repair technology after announcing the June 8, 2026 acquisition of Diesel Laptops for approximately $100 million in cash. The target, based in Irmo, South Carolina, provides diagnostics, repair information, and digital solutions for commercial trucks, fleets, repair shops, and off-highway equipment customers across mining, agriculture, and infrastructure. The deal comes shortly after Snap-on reported a strong Q1 2026, with sales of $1.207 billion, up 5.8% year-over-year, and organic growth of 3.4%, supported by resilience in vehicle repair, critical industries, and repair information systems. Management also highlighted heavy-duty strength inside C&I and ongoing investment in proprietary databases, large language models, and software tools inside RS&I. Diesel Laptops therefore fits directly into Snap-on’s stated push to expand diagnostics, repair data, and shop productivity in increasingly complex vehicle markets.
