This is our first report on Prudential Financial, Inc., a major global player in financial services and insurance. Prudential kept transforming throughout the quarter to become less reliant on the market and better able to produce steady, long-term growth. The company also had the financial strength to navigate the changing macroeconomic climate because of its rock-solid balance sheet. The company’s institutional retirement strategies business had strong Q1 sales, largely spurred by its pension risk transfer business. The business recorded over $2.8 billion in total new business transactions, marking its best Q1 performance ever. Prudential also reported continued momentum in international reinsurance with a $500 million longevity risk transaction and growth milestones in its international business, particularly in Latin America. Additionally, it has diversified its sales mix to meet customer needs in a higher interest rate environment. The company has also enhanced customer engagement by driving more digital experiences and improved customer outcomes, including through e-signature adoption and an electronic claims portal for life insurance customers. With disciplined approach to capital deployment, Prudential returned $700 million to shareholders in Q1, while also increasing the quarterly dividend by 4%, marking its 15th consecutive annual dividend increase. We initiate coverage on the stock of Prudential Financial, Inc. with a ‘Hold’ rating.
