Novanta’s $1.45 Billion Riverpoint Acquisition Gamble Could Reshape Its Medical Future!
Novanta has moved to acquire Riverpoint Medical in a transaction that could materially reshape its portfolio mix, growth profile, and exposure to recurring medical consumables. The company announced a definitive agreement to buy Riverpoint for $1.2 billion in upfront cash consideration, with an additional $250 million milestone payment expected in the first quarter of 2027, subject to the transaction closing in the third quarter of 2026. Riverpoint is a developer, designer, and manufacturer of advanced surgical fibers, biomedical textiles, and minimally invasive surgical consumables used across sports medicine, trauma, and cardiovascular procedures. The deal follows a strong Q1 2026 for Novanta, with 10% reported revenue growth, 37% bookings growth, a 1.10 book-to-bill ratio, 14% adjusted EBITDA growth, and operating cash flow up 63% year-over-year. Management also emphasized acquisitions as a 2026 priority, particularly in medical technologies, medical consumables, embedded software, and adjacent high-growth platforms.
