Columbia Sportswear Company delivered an all-around beat in the most recent quarterly result. Net revenues increased in the quarter. Columbia Sportswear’s expectations were essentially met as the gross margin increased by 140 basis points. Lower incoming freight costs were the main factor in expansion. US net sales fell by 3%. The Columbia brand’s spring-selling season performance in the US is marginally worse than the previous season. Net revenues of US e-commerce fell by a mid-single-digit percentage. In the quarter, net sales for the Columbia brand grew 11%. The company’s product portfolio features a wide spectrum of innovation that is based on a foundation of cooling and sun protection technologies, including Omni-Freeze ZERO, Omni-Shade Sun Deflector, and its newest addition, Omni-Shade Broad Spectrum. These developments set the Columbia brand apart in the industry and established it as a pioneer in sun protection. PrAna’s net sales fell during the quarter, with a reduction in DTC and wholesale, partly attributable to on-time spring ’23 shipments that caused sales to shift to the first quarter.
