Description

Walmart Inc. managed to exceed analyst expectations in terms of revenue as well as earnings. Walmart US experienced a 4.9% increase in comp sales, while Sam’s Club US saw a 3.8% rise. The international segment, particularly Walmex and China, led to a 5.4% growth in constant currency. Sam’s Club performed exceptionally well in Mexico and China, with a special mention of the outstanding growth of the Bodega Aurrera business. E-commerce sales demonstrated significant strength. The management acknowledged successful execution in driving seasonal events maintaining solid in-stock and inventory levels. Despite better-than-expected top-line and adjusted EPS, expense management fell short of projections, impacting adjusted operating income growth. The evolving profit and loss structure, combining traditional retail components with digital businesses, is reshaping Walmart’s business model. Strong growth in digital businesses, coupled with supply chain automation efforts, contributes to a more sustainable and profitable business over time. The Marketplace remains a crucial engine for growth, with a substantial expansion in the number of items available to US customers. Their management is committed to enhancing customer experiences, improving Net Promoter Scores for pickup and delivery and integrating generative AI to enhance search and chat features.
